This is probably no longer a secret, as I haven't been shy about revealing it, but I landed my quarter-time role last year at a startup through an original cold DM to CEO (DM pasted below). Furthermore, I've utilised cold emails to network with founders, creators, developer advocates, community managers, and developers, and I have no shame or fear in doing so.

Here are the two most important points to remember in order to master the art of cold emailing/DM.
The most crucial thing is to know who you're cold emailing/DMing.
Don't ask for something outright from the person you're emailing.
The greatest cold emails I've seen strike a delicate balance between providing enough information so the reader understands the core of what you're asking and not boring the reader with too many details or requests.
I honestly believe that if you are humble, helpful, and sincere, you may benefit from a cold email.
One of the best examples I've seen live on Twitter.
P.S. This email is just a very small excerpt from my new book. It's available for pre-order and has already sold 90+ copies in 2 days.
See you next week for a more in-depth excerpt.
Cheers & Stay Awesome,
Ankur
